Dawn Roberts
This month we celebrate our host of Unique Ladies Blackburn, Hyndburn & Preston. She was also runner up in our Unique Lady of the Year award for 2020, being narrowly beaten.
Dawn first joined Unique Ladies when she was working running her Personal Trainer business.
“I met so many lovely ladies and gained confidence in myself which I found had been dwindling away working on my own. It’s a lonely world being a sole trader and networking is a great way to get out and just meet people. I love having so many people I can now call on and having so many amazing businesses I can share amongst the rest of my contacts.
She loved the Unique Ladies way of networking so much she decided to join the team, setting up groups in Blackburn and Hyndburn in quick succession. She has recently taken over the Preston group which she’s looking forward to going live with later in the summer when we can meet face to face again. In the meantime her monthly online meeting is a collaboration for ladies across her areas.

Which Unique Ladies group(s) do you attend?
I run the Hyndburn, Blackburn and Preston Groups but prior to this I was a regular at Bolton.
What’s your favourite…
…holiday destination? If I have a choice Italy is my favourite place. I just love the people, they are so animated when they talk. The food is amazing. The ambience wherever you go is so relaxing. I used to deal with Italian companies in business and they were a nightmare, no sense of urgency at all so you had to give them deadlines well before the due date….that made me realise it would be an ideal relaxing place for a holiday! Even Rome where we went for our 10th wedding anniversary was relaxing for a city break.
Other than that I’m happy going to our lodge near Bowness where we can take the dogs and just chill out.
…food? It would be easier to answer what’s my least favourite LOL!! (Sprouts by the way). I’m a real foodie. If I really had to pick it would be Chicken Fajitas (without green peppers…that’s my other least favourite). I love a refreshing salad as much as a good curry, a crispy pizza, fish pie, sushi…
…music? As a teenager I was a huge Gary Numan fan. I refused to listen to anything else other than David Bowie. David Bowie has stayed with me and I still love belting along to his songs but as I’ve got a little older my tastes are much varied. Concerts I’ve been to in the past few years, to show my variety of tastes are Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli (he was a replacement show for when Pavarotti passed away that we’d got tickets for), Genesis, Roger Waters (nearest we got to Pink Floyd), Michael Kiwanuka (love this guy’s voice, he’s the one who did the opening music for Big Little Lies), saw him at Lowry, best concert for me. Hans Zimmer…..highly recommend seeing him if you get the chance! Rammstein are the most outlandish we’ve seen, love them, a German Industrial Rock group, husband Dave loves them to get psyched up for rugby!

You can’t hum whilst you hold your nose! (Bet you tried that didn’t you!?)
Favourite Quote “Don’t go in the Monsoon with your socks on”……don’t ask me what it really means but my first boss used to say it and it always made me laugh so I tend to say it when something is puzzling me or I feel I’m in a situation over my head!
One thing you couldn’t live without?
The closest thing to this for me are my dogs. They make me laugh everyday and have been a saving grace throughout the pandemic. I can’t even imagine how lonely I would feel without them.
