Our Unique Lady of the month for April is Sarah Hunter of Chorley Pilates
Although she’s had to close the doors to her pilates studio while these COVID-19 restrictions are in play, she’s working hard to keep as many people healthy and strong by running her Pilates classes as Facebook lives. There are two live classes per day Monday to Friday 10am and 6.30pm and a Saturday morning Rise and Shine at 8.30am. All the classes then go on to YouTube where members can access them at any time and as often as they wish.
Sarah’s Story
10 years ago Sarah was forced into set off on a new journey away from her career as a college lecturer in horticulture and garden design. A single mum with 2 toddlers and a mortgage, she needed a new direction, and was introduced to the idea of training to become a Pilates instructor. The idea grew into a reality as she embarked on an extensive course of study, and after attaining her qualification she immediately set up classes in a local dance studio and school hall.
She put everything into growing the business, offering additional classes in a physiotherapy clinic and supplemented her income with other work too, almost running out of steam. By chance she discovered a vacant office space in Chorley and equipment for sale in Manchester, so with financial and motivational support from family, the doors to Chorley Pilates opened in August 2017. Starting with 5 clients from her original classes she now has over 60 clients and employs two part-time instructors too.

What’s your favourite…
…holiday destination? North Wales, I love the sea, mountains and tranquillity, and not having to travel very far!
…food? my Mum’s Christmas dinner, nothing beats it.
…music? I have quite eclectic taste from classical, through to jazz, funk, thrash metal and punk. If I just had to select one piece it would be the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky.
An interesting fact? I have a degree in Marine Biology

One thing you couldn’t live without? A good mystery novel.
