Introducing our Unique Lady of the Month:
Lin Dawes
I’m Lin, Co-Owner of Scruffymonkey Web Design. I joined Chris, my husband, in the family business when Scruffymonkey began to grow as a much-loved and in-demand web design business in our hometown of Bolton. We offer website design, website support, branding and SEO services. I love that whilst we have such loyal clients here, we actually work with clients all over the country and beyond, well over 200 so far. (Our furthest is in Australia!)
I began my nerdiness by starting my working life as a Computer Science teacher in Secondary Schools. I did this for 14 years (Imagine being in a room with 30 hormonal teenagers most of the day!). Once I reached the role of Head of Department and the ‘politics’ began. I realised the world of education was not for me. This is when I joined the family business.
My role at Scruffymonkey is definitely the techie / nerdy brains! With a background in coding, I tend to do work on things like e-commerce, on-line booking systems and membership directories for our clients. I love being given a problem to solve.
Those who know me know I’m not usually one to put myself out there which is why I was delighted to win the ‘Woman of the Year in IT’ at the Inspire Awards in 2018.
Our ethos at Scruffymonkey is that we take a “No monkey business approach to web design”. We don’t like bamboozling people with techie jargon or making out like web design is a dark art. We talk to you like ’normal’ people which is unusual for IT folk! What’s your favourite…
…holiday destination? Disney World Florida – You can’t beat the feeling of walking through the gates onto Main Street with the castle in front of you. It’s my happy place.
…food? Margarita Pizza – Boring but done right is the best thing in the world.
…music? 90’s Dance (showing my age!) – Recently we went to see Pete Tong doing Ibiza Classics to a live orchestra. It was amazing!!
Intestesting Fact
My degree was a joint honours with IT & Geography. I have an unhealthy obsession with natural disasters like Volcanoes, Tornadoes, Hurricanes & Earthquakes! I love a good channel 5 documentary about them!
